IDF Announces Strikes in Syria and Lebanon in Bold Tactical Move
In response to mortar shells and anti-tank missiles being fired toward the northern community of Bar’am and various military outposts along the border, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) state that they successfully carried out multiple strikes against targets in Lebanon and Syria.
In the immediate aftermath of the alert in Bar’am, IDF artillery in the area returned fire against the source point of the launches. IDF tanks and Israeli Air Force fighter jets performed targeted strikes against Hizbullah infrastructure throughout the day, destroying weapons and launch posts.
Earlier on Tuesday, Hizbullah claimed responsibility for launching numerous rockets and missiles into Israel from southern Lebanon.
IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari noted that over 100,000 residents of southern Lebanon have been forced to flee their homes and head north in recent months, citing “Hizbullah [continuing] to operate from the villages and built-up areas in southern Lebanon.”
“This is a terrorist operation. We will respond resolutely and severely to every such attack by Hizbullah,” Hagari added.
The IDF also announced that three projectiles had been fired at Israel from Syrian territory; two of which landed in Syria and the other in an open area within Israel. In response to the attack, the IDF claims that it hit multiple military outposts belonging to the Syrian Army.
Two days ago, the Syrian Army released a statement claiming that its air defense system had intercepted missiles that the Israeli military had fired toward the capital city, Damascus. The army alleged that the missiles were launched from the Golan Heights, an area that has been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Six-Day War.
According to the statement, the missiles that were not shot down caused damage in areas surrounding the capital.
The Syrian Army, a company force of the Syrian Arab Armed Forces, operates under President Bashar Assad’s Ba’athist government, which is a close political and military ally of Iran.
