IDF Says Hostages Rescued From Hamas-Linked Journalist’s Home in Gaza

Israeli forces successfully rescued three hostages from the home of Palestinian journalist Abdallah Aljamal, who the Israeli military claims is associated with the Hamas terror group. The rescue, which occurred in the dense residential area of Nuseirat on Saturday, resulted in the death of hundreds of civilians.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) conducted the rescue of hostages Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv from Aljamal’s home, claiming it was a necessary action due to Aljamal’s ties with Hamas. A fourth hostage, Noa Argamani, was also rescued from a nearby location as part of what the IDF has named “Operation Arnon,” in memory of Yamam commander Ch. Insp. Arnon Zmora, who was fatally wounded during the mission.

Ramy Abdu, head of the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, criticized the operation, highlighting that it led to the deaths of Abdallah Aljamal and his father, among others, raising questions about the proportionality and necessity of the IDF’s use of force in populated areas. Abdallah Aljamal had previously served as a spokesman for Gaza’s Labor Ministry and contributed to various news publications, including the Palestine Chronicle.

Gaza’s health ministry updated the casualty figures from the raid, reporting that 274 Palestinians were killed and an additional 798 were injured. The IDF defends the operation, emphasizing that the hostages were held in a civilian setting used by Hamas, which they claim justifies the raid.
