Indonesia Offers Temporary Shelter for Gazan Civilians
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced Wednesday that his country is prepared to temporarily host Palestinians wounded or displaced by the ongoing war in Gaza. The plan, which would initially accommodate around 1,000 people, is part of Indonesia’s growing effort to support Palestinian civilians and push for a political resolution to the crisis.
“We are ready to evacuate those who are injured or traumatized, and orphans, if they want to be evacuated to Indonesia, and we are ready to send planes to transport them,” Subianto said before departing for a tour of the Middle East.

Subianto said the evacuees would stay in Indonesia until they recover and it is safe to return to Gaza. He noted that he ordered the Foreign Ministry to immediately coordinate with Palestinian authorities and other involved parties.
The initiative comes after Indonesia rejected a suggestion from US President Donald Trump in February to resettle Palestinians from Gaza in other countries. Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, has long been a vocal backer of Palestinian self-determination and has opposed any forced relocation efforts.
In recent months, Israeli media reported quiet efforts to launch a work visa program allowing some Gazans to move to Indonesia, despite the lack of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries. While that plan has not moved forward, Jakarta now appears open to accepting more Palestinian refugees for humanitarian reasons.
