Iran Reaffirms Commitment to US Nuclear Talks Despite Postponed Rome Meeting

Iran remains committed to diplomatic engagement with the United States, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Monday, despite the postponement of the fourth round of indirect nuclear negotiations originally scheduled to take place in Rome on May 3.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran was adaptable regarding the timing of the negotiations and emphasized that the delay, officially attributed to “logistical reasons,” would not deter Iran’s pursuit of dialogue.

“We have announced our commitment to continuing the path of dialogue and diplomacy, and we have shown our full readiness by participating in several rounds of negotiations,” Baghaei told reporters. He added that Tehran was awaiting further details from Oman, the official mediator in the talks, regarding the rescheduling of the next meeting.

Baghaei criticized what he described as mixed signals from the American side, saying that contradictory statements from US officials are “unhelpful” and would not affect Iran’s resolve to uphold its key nuclear positions, including the right to domestically enrich uranium.

His comments followed remarks last week by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who suggested Iran should import enriched uranium rather than enrich it domestically — a proposal likely to face resistance in Tehran.
