Israel Health Ministry Ends Free COVID-19 Antigen Testing, Shifts Pandemic Response

The Israeli Health Ministry is discontinuing its free COVID-19 antigen testing program, which has been in operation for over three years, according to a statement issued Monday. With the diminishing severity of the pandemic in Israel and globally, the ministry is now transitioning to manage the disease within the regular health care system.

Effective July 6, the cancellation will see health maintenance organizations conducting coronavirus tests for their insured clients based on medical judgment. PCR and antigen tests, including remote supervised home tests, will still be available for a fee through approved providers.

According to the ministry, the decision will free up resources, allowing for further investment and focus on strengthening the public health care system. The move represents a shift in strategy as Israel adjusts to the pandemic’s evolving dynamics.
