IDF Airstrike on Displaced Palestinians’ Shelter Kills 30
An Israeli airstrike targeting a school in Deir Al-Balah, which was sheltering displaced Palestinians, resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people on Saturday, according to Palestinian health officials. Among the dead were 15 children and eight women. The attack also left over 100 people wounded, as reported by the local media office and the Gaza health ministry.
The Israeli military stated that the strike was aimed at terrorists who were allegedly using the school as a base for operations. They claimed to have taken measures to minimize civilian casualties. Israel has accused Hamas of using civilian areas for military purposes, a claim Hamas denies. According to an Israeli military statement, the school compound was purportedly used by Hamas to coordinate attacks and store weapons.
Meanwhile, in Deir Al-Balah’s Al-Aqsa Hospital, ambulances hurried to bring in the wounded, some of whom were walking in, their clothes blood-stained. On the ground, Reuters footage captured the aftermath, with residents returning to the bombed site to salvage belongings amid smoldering ruins and damaged vehicles. The walls of the school were destroyed, and debris littered the area.
