Israeli Missiles Target Military Sites Near Aleppo’s Airport in Syria

Israel launched a missile attack near Aleppo’s international airport in northern Syria on Saturday, the Syrian army said. The strike aimed at military sites south of Aleppo, causing material damage but no reported harm to Aleppo International Airport itself. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, six loud explosions were heard near the al-Nayrab military airport east of Aleppo. The targeted area, including farms between the villages of Al-Dhahabiya and Al-Sheikh Saeed, is believed to be a base for warehouses and headquarters of Iran-backed militias.

This attack is part of a series of Israeli assaults on Syrian military sites. Notably, the Observatory reported that 19 pro-Iran fighters were killed in an Israeli strike in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zur. The attack targeted positions and a convoy in Al-Bukamal city, along with a military headquarters, shipments, and an ammunition warehouse near the Syrian-Iraqi border.

Israel’s intensified attacks on Syrian targets coincide with its military campaign in the Gaza Strip. Recently, an Israeli assault south of Damascus resulted in the death of Sayyed Razi Mousavi, a senior advisor of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in Syria. The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned these attacks and called on the UN Security Council for decisive action.

Syria, embroiled in a civil war for over 12 years, sees its government forces, backed by Russia and Iran, clashing with various opposition groups. Israel maintains a policy of preventing Iran from gaining a military foothold in Syria, frequently targeting alleged Iranian weapon supplies through airstrikes.
