Israeli Prime Minister To Be Discharged Following Hospitalization for Suspected Dehydration
Israeli Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu is set to be discharged from the hospital on Sunday after tests revealed no health concerns. Netanyahu, 73, was admitted to Sheba Hospital near Tel Aviv on Saturday due to suspected dehydration and kept under overnight observation. He had spent several hours in the sun at the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel on Friday, and complained of slight dizziness on Saturday, leading to his hospitalization.
In a video statement from the hospital, Netanyahu appeared upbeat and admitted he had not taken sufficient precautions during his visit to the Sea of Galilee amidst a heatwave. “Yesterday, I was with my wife at the Sea of Galilee, in the sun, without a hat, without water … not a good idea,” he said.
Due to the prime minister’s hospitalization, Israel’s weekly cabinet meeting, usually held on Sunday, has been postponed until Monday. The Israeli Meteorological Service had previously issued a warning about rising temperatures and the risk of dehydration and heatstroke, especially for the elderly and the sick.
