Jordan Uncovers Large Explosives Cache Tied to Iran-Linked Group

Jordanian authorities have discovered a large stockpile of explosives hidden in a commercial warehouse, allegedly stashed by a politically motivated group with ties to Iran. The weapons were found in Abu Alanda, an industrial area southeast of the capital, Amman. According to security forces, the explosives have been safely detonated and disposed of.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Jordanian police claimed that the group behind this cache was also responsible for explosives found on Saturday in a densely populated residential neighborhood near a military installation. Both incidents are being investigated as terror-related due to the quantity of explosives found.

While authorities did not name the responsible group, in March, Jordan seized a large weapons shipment from Syria intended for a faction within the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood, a transnational Islamic movement linked to armed groups worldwide.

Jordan’s pro-Western government, aligned with the US, has long accused Iran and its proxies of attempting to destabilize the kingdom and overthrow the ruling Hashemite monarchy. Since the war broke out in Gaza in October last year, Iranian-backed militias from Syria have been caught trying to smuggle arms across the border on numerous occasions. Many of these weapons are believed to be destined for Hamas cells in the West Bank.
