Knesset Christian Allies Caucus Marks 20 Years Amid Israel-Hamas Conflict
The Knesset Christian Allies Caucus (KCAC) marked its 20th anniversary on Tuesday, a significant milestone overshadowed by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. The event, held at the Knesset in Jerusalem, was attended by Christian leaders worldwide, Knesset members including co-chairs MK Yuli Edelstein and MK Sharren Haskel, and Yarden Gonen, representing the families of Israeli hostages, including her sister Romi Leshem.
Despite being an occasion for celebration, the event was somber, reflecting on the recent death of 21 Israeli soldiers in Gaza and the plight of 136 hostages still held by Hamas. The ceremony included interfaith prayers focusing on these pressing issues.
Since its establishment in 2004, the KCAC has grown into the Knesset’s largest and most influential caucus, with members from across the political spectrum. It has been instrumental in several key achievements, such as relocating embassies to Jerusalem, promoting education about Israel globally, and combating antisemitism.
Israeli leaders at the event emphasized the critical role of Christian support for Israel, especially since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7. They referred to this faith-based diplomacy as Israel’s “diplomatic Iron Dome.”
Christian leaders attending the ceremony spoke to The Media Line about the rise of antisemitism in their countries since the war began, attributing it to misinformation and anti-Israel propaganda. They expressed their commitment to disseminating accurate information about Israel and countering this wave of antisemitism, seeing it as a crucial part of their mission.
