Lebanese Army Intercepts 700 Syrians Attempting To Cross Border Illegally
The Lebanese Army Command announced on Wednesday that over the past week, the military has intercepted about 700 Syrian nationals attempting to enter Lebanon illegally at the Lebanese-Syrian border. The interdictions are part of Lebanon’s broader efforts to crack down on human smuggling in border areas with Syria.
With an estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees already residing in Lebanon, the country faces significant domestic pressure concerning the inflow of Syrian refugees. Lebanon currently hosts the largest number of refugees per capita in the world, leading to a strain on resources and widespread discontent among its citizens.
