MBS Warns US Lawmakers His Life Is at Risk Over Israel-Saudi Deal: Report

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), according to a report in Politico, has informed US lawmakers that his life may be in jeopardy due to his pursuit of a comprehensive agreement with the US and Israel, which includes normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. He reportedly compared his situation to that of former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who was assassinated after reaching a peace accord with Israel, and asked what the US would do to protect him.

These concerns, tied to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the Arab world’s fury toward Israel, are why MBS insists that any deal must include a viable path to a Palestinian state. Despite the risks, MBS appears committed to pushing forward with the deal, viewing it as essential to Saudi Arabia’s future.

The emerging agreement reportedly includes US security guarantees, assistance with a civilian nuclear program, and investments in technology, in exchange for Saudi Arabia establishing diplomatic relations with Israel and curbing its ties with China. MBS also emphasized the importance of resolving the Palestinian issue for regional stability.

While MBS’s security concerns add pressure on the negotiations, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to accept a Palestinian state, a stance supported by many in Israel, especially following the Hamas attacks on October 7.
