PA Prime Minister Shtayyeh Announces Government Resignation Amid Plans for New Administration
Palestinian Authority (PA) Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh announced the resignation of his government on Monday, offering it to President Mahmoud Abbas for consideration. This development comes as Shtayyeh emphasizes the need for the PA’s comprehensive management of all Palestinian territories, including the Gaza Strip, in anticipation of future challenges and the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Shtayyeh’s statement reiterated the necessity for new governmental and political frameworks to address the upcoming stage’s complexities and the persistent confrontation with Israel. “We will remain in confrontation with Israel until the Palestinian state is established,” he asserted. According to private sources, Abbas will accept Shtayyeh’s resignation
The resignation is seen as a precursor to the formation of a new technocratic administration aimed at revitalizing and reforming the PA. This move is particularly focused on preparing for the governance of Gaza following the recent conflict. The envisaged technocratic government, expected to be independent of any Palestinian faction, would initially operate under the leadership of non-partisan professionals. This transitional phase, supported by international backers, is designed to stabilize the region and pave the way for eventual elections.
Hamas, designated as a terrorist organization by several countries, including the United States and the European Union, has also indicated its support for the formation of such a government. This gesture suggests a willingness to facilitate a period of governance that transcends factional divides, with the ultimate goal of achieving unity and stability within Palestinian territories.
