Protesters Storm American Restaurants in Baghdad, Causing Damage

Dozens of protesters on Monday evening stormed two American restaurant chains in Baghdad, causing significant damage, according to a security source. The protests targeted a KFC on Palestine Street in eastern Baghdad and the Chili House and Lee’s restaurant in the Jadriya neighborhood.

The source from the Iraqi Interior Ministry, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that angry protesters broke into the KFC restaurant before security forces intervened by firing shots into the air to disperse the crowd. Simultaneously, the Chili House and Lee’s restaurant faced attacks where tables and chairs were smashed.

In response to the unrest, Iraqi security forces increased their presence in both neighborhoods, and the situation is now reported to be under control.

These incidents follow a series of similar attacks targeting KFC, Chili House, Lee’s, and branches of American and British companies in Baghdad over recent days. While no group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, local observers believe they may be connected to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The speculation is that the targeted businesses are viewed as symbols of countries perceived to support Israel.
