Second Day of Explosions Targets Hezbollah Devices, Killing 14 in Lebanon

For the second consecutive day, explosions rocked Lebanon, killing at least 14 people and wounding hundreds in what appears to be a continuation of attacks targeting Hezbollah communication devices. According to Lebanon’s state news agency, the blasts were reported across southern Lebanon, in the Bekaa region, and in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Hand-held radios used by Hezbollah were among the devices that detonated late this afternoon, security sources confirmed.

The explosions occurred just one day after thousands of Hezbollah pagers detonated across Lebanon, killing 12 Hezbollah members and wounding hundreds. This second wave of blasts occurred near a Hezbollah-organized funeral for those killed in Tuesday’s attack. Witnesses reported that at least two cars were destroyed when walkie-talkies exploded inside them in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Tuesday’s initial attack, which involved tampered pagers, left nearly 300 people critically injured, including Iran’s envoy to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, who lost an eye in the blasts. Lebanese Health Minister Firas Abiad reported that many of the wounded, including children and elderly people, suffered severe facial injuries and brain hemorrhages.

The explosions come amid ongoing clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along Israel’s northern border. Hezbollah has launched daily attacks on Israel since October 8, tying its actions to the war in Gaza. Though the group claims it does not seek a full-scale conflict, it has vowed to retaliate against the pager and radio attacks.
