Special US Envoy To Travel to Israel in Hopes of Preventing Escalation with Hezbollah

Amid escalating violence along the Israeli-Lebanese border, a senior White House aide will travel to Israel on Monday for talks centered on preventing an all-out war with Hezbollah, a Biden Administration official disclosed.

The official, who spoke to the press on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that Amos Hochstein would spearhead the White House’s diplomatic efforts.

Hochstein, a longtime ally and adviser of President Biden, has represented US interests in Lebanon on multiple occasions, playing a key role in navigating the complex negotiations between Israel, the Lebanese government, and Hezbollah.

Recent media reports have claimed that senior members of the Biden Administration have begun voicing serious concerns about a possible escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

Last week, an Israeli airstrike killed a senior Hezbollah commander only 6 miles from the border. Taleb Sami Abdullah’s death, believed to be the militia’s highest-ranking leader to die so far in the eight months of cross-border fighting, prompted Hezbollah to launch multiple massive volleys of rockets at northern Israel.

Yesterday, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari released an English-language statement saying that Israel may be compelled to respond in force.

“Hezbollah’s increasing aggression is bringing us to the brink of what could be a wider escalation, one that could have devastating consequences for Lebanon and the entire region,” Hagari said.
