Syrian Opposition Coalition Rejects Assad Regime’s Arab League Reinstatement
The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces has rejected the reinstatement of the Assad regime to the Arab League. The coalition expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, stating that it would abandon the just demands of the Syrian people and their struggle for justice, freedom, and democracy.
The coalition criticized the Arab League’s move as biased and warned that it would strengthen the oppressive regime and its allies, including Iran. They emphasized that this decision would lead to more violence and terrorism against the Syrian people. The coalition called on the international community to support the Syrian people in their quest for justice and human rights, urging concrete actions to hold the Assad regime accountable for its crimes.
Badr Jamous, the head of the Syrian Negotiation Committee, expressed disapproval of the decision, stating that it undermines the efforts of the Syrian people for change and disregards their demands. He criticized the lack of consultation with the Syrian people and highlighted that the regime’s return without any positive steps related to the political process would further complicate the situation.
The coalition reiterated the need for a complete political transition in Syria, in line with UN Resolution 2254, and stressed the importance of holding Assad and his regime accountable for their crimes. They regarded any initiative outside this international resolution framework as biased toward the Assad regime.
