Tunisian National Guard Disrupts Network Smuggling Migrants to Italy
The Tunisian National Guard announced on Sunday the successful dismantling of a human trafficking network that facilitated the smuggling of African migrants into Italy. In a statement published on its Facebook page, the National Guard revealed that its security units in the southeastern province of Sfax had intercepted and disbanded a group actively engaged in this illicit activity.
According to the statement, the network was responsible for assisting individuals from various African nations to illegally enter Tunisian territory via the Algerian land border. Once inside Tunisia, these people were then transported and sheltered in preparation for their illegal immigration attempts toward Italy.
During the operation, four individuals were apprehended, and the authorities confiscated three vehicles and a substantial amount of cash. The National Guard did not disclose further details about the operation.
