Twitter Bans Khamenei Account Over Video Threatening To Kill Trump

Twitter has banned a Persian-language account linked to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei for posting an animated video that threatens to kill former US President Donald Trump. The video shows Trump targeted for assassination by a robot and a drone, as he plays golf at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. Khamenei’s main Twitter accounts in several different languages continue to operate on Twitter. The video also was published on Khamenei’s official website, http://Khamenei.ir.

A Twitter spokesman told AFP that “The account referenced has been permanently suspended for violating our ban evasion policy.”

The statement “Soleimani’s murderer and the one who gave the order will pay the price,” appears as part of the video, which also shows an image of the Al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Trump ordered the assassination of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in January 2020 when a US drone bombed his convoy at Baghdad International Airport. Iran earlier this month observed a week of memorial events for the second anniversary of Soleimani’s death, ending with an exhibition of Iran’s missile capabilities. Khamenei has repeatedly promised to avenge Soleimani’s death.
