Violence Flares in Jenin Refugee Camp Between Israeli and Palestinian Forces

Violent confrontations erupted Tuesday evening in the Jenin refugee camp between members of armed Palestinian groups and Israeli troops, according to Palestinian media reports. The clashes included the detonation of an explosive device by Palestinian fighters, which damaged an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) jeep on Nazareth Street within the camp. During the hostilities, a Palestinian youth was gravely wounded by IDF gunfire. Eyewitnesses observed an Apache helicopter patrolling the skies above Jenin and noted the arrival of additional military forces to the area. IDF troops were said to have surrounded a residential building in the camp and struck it with a missile fired from a shoulder-mounted launcher.
