4th Pandemic Wave Hits Israel With No Sign of Control
Despite its world leadership in fighting the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, Israel’s efforts to win over round four have yet to manifest with signs of stemming the spread of the disease. As of Sunday morning, the number of cases tagged as “serious” or worse is at its highest point since the fourth wave began – 666 patients of whom 104 are attached to ventilators. The infection rate of 5.44% includes an additional 5,300+ new cases reported on Saturday. Israelis are asking why there is no indication that the COVID-19 spread is responding to the nation’s preventive measures with more than 1.3 million residents having already received their third shot. The governmental body in charge of the pandemic is meeting on Sunday but the subjects of the day are whether the opening of schools will be delayed for a month or more and whether students will be vaccinated during school hours. Many Israelis say more issues deserve attention than the advisory committee is providing.
