Agricultural Fire in Turkey Claims 12 Lives, Injures 78
Turkish authorities have successfully contained an agricultural fire in southeastern Turkey that resulted in 12 fatalities and 78 injuries, local broadcaster NTV reported on Saturday.
The blaze began on Thursday night as a stubble fire in the cultivated areas of the Çınar district in Diyarbakır province and the Mazıdağı district in Mardin province. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed this information on Friday, stating that strong winds had quickly spread the fire over a large area before firefighters managed to bring it under control.

Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced on social media platform X that an investigation had been initiated to determine the cause of the fire. Deputy Interior Minister Münir Karaloğlu noted that the fire affected approximately 1,510 hectares (about 3,730 acres) of land.
Karaloğlu further mentioned that much of the burned land was unharvested barley and wheat fields. Hundreds of animals also perished in the blaze.
