Alliance Against Abraham Accords Asks Allies to Avoid Emirates Airline Authors Assembly
Several intellectuals from countries in the Gulf region will boycott the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, to protest Abu Dhabi’s normalization deal with Israel. The festival is to be held February 3-13 in Al Habtoor City in Dubai. The boycott, organized by the Gulf Coalition Against Normalization, has the support of Omani writer Bushra Khalfan, and Kuwaiti writers Mona Al-Shamri, Ahmed Al-Zamam and Ali Ashour. The coalition calls on additional writers from countries that have not normalized relations with Israel, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Oman, to join their protest. More than 180 writers from across the region and around the world are slated to participate in the festival’s program, which comprises 172 sessions. Among the participants will be one of Israel’s leading writers, David Grossman, who will appear virtually to discuss his literary career, including his book A Horse Walks into a Bar and a forthcoming opera based on his book Falling Out of Time.
