Arab League Convenes Emergency Meeting To Address Israel-Gaza Crisis
Arab foreign ministers convened an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday through the Arab League in Cairo, seeking an immediate end to the current Israel-Gaza conflict. The conflict, now in its sixth day, has resulted in over 2,600 casualties and numerous injuries on both sides. The top diplomats called for self-restraint and highlighted the “catastrophic humanitarian and security repercussions” of continued violence.
In their final statement, the ministers stressed the need to lift the Israeli siege on Gaza and provide immediate humanitarian aid. They condemned civilian casualties on both sides and called for the release of hostages, detainees, and prisoners. Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit asserted that the crisis stemmed from a “clogged political horizon,” citing Israeli settlements as a hindrance to peace.
The ministers pledged to work with the international community for urgent de-escalation and encouraged financial support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees. Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki pushed for a revival of the peace process through genuine political negotiations, a sentiment echoed by Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, who chaired the meeting.
