Brazil Pledges To Evacuate Stranded South Americans Amid Gaza Crisis

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced on Tuesday that Brazil was committed to aiding the evacuation of South Americans stranded in the Middle East due to the ongoing Gaza crisis. Speaking on his weekly program Talk With the President, Lula revealed that he had coordinated with Air Force Commander Lt. Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno to facilitate the operation.

“If, when we finish bringing back Brazilians, there are men and women from Latin America, from South America, who cannot return to our continent, we will be supportive and we will bring those people back also. That is Brazil’s role in the world,” Lula said.

To date, the Brazilian Air Force has successfully evacuated 1,413 individuals and 53 pets back to Brazil via eight flights. However, around 30 Brazilians in the Gaza Strip are still awaiting rescue. The operation has been delayed due to an impasse with the authorities at the border with Egypt. President Lula said he would continue to advocate for a negotiated resolution to the crisis.
