Carrefour and Dubai’s Apparel Group Join Forces for Indian Expansion
French multinational retail giant Carrefour is making a strategic entry into the Indian market through a franchise partnership with Dubai-based Apparel Group. The partnership will initially focus on North India, with plans for further expansion across the country. The first Carrefour stores are expected to open in 2025.
India, with its population of approximately 1.4 billion, represents one of the world’s largest and most attractive food markets, especially given the rising consumer spending power. Patrick Lasfargues, Executive Director of International Partnerships at Carrefour, emphasized the importance of this move, stating that Carrefour’s entry into India is a key step in the company’s strategy to expand its franchise into more than 10 new countries by 2026.

Truth and understanding

We see it.
We report with just one agenda: the truth.
Nilesh Ved, owner of Apparel Group, expressed confidence in the partnership, aiming to offer Indian consumers high-quality products at competitive prices, making Carrefour a preferred brand in the region.
This move comes as India continues to grapple with severe food price inflation, which has significantly impacted the country’s fast-growing economy. Carrefour, which operates 14,000 stores in nearly 40 countries, had previously attempted to enter the Indian market but withdrew in 2014 due to underperformance. This new partnership signals a renewed commitment to establishing a strong presence in the Indian retail sector.
