Interim President Mokhber Pledges To Uphold Raisi’s Iraq Strategy

Iran’s interim President Mohammad Mokhber vowed on Saturday to continue the strategy of late President Ebrahim Raisi toward Iraq. Mokhber made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, who visited Tehran to extend condolences over the deaths of Raisi and his entourage in a recent helicopter crash, according to Iran’s official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Mokhber emphasized Raisi’s significant achievement in enhancing Iran’s relations with Muslim, neighboring, and like-minded states. He underlined Iraq’s critical role in Iran’s political and religious framework and confirmed that Raisi’s policy toward Iraq would “continue with strength.”

President Rashid expressed his deep sorrow over the loss of Raisi and his team. He praised Raisi for his unwavering support for Iraq and affirmed Iraq’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing bilateral relations. Rashid pledged to “implement all necessary measures to improve bilateral ties.”

The helicopter crash, which occurred a week ago in the mountainous region of East Azarbaijan, claimed the lives of Raisi, Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and several other officials.

Following the accident, Mokhber, Iran’s first vice president, was appointed interim president. A new presidential election is scheduled for June 28.
