Iran and Bahrain Initiate Talks To Restore Diplomatic Relations
Iran and Bahrain have agreed to begin discussions on re-establishing their diplomatic relations after an eight-year hiatus, according to a joint statement released by both countries. The announcement came after a meeting in Tehran between Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.
The leaders said their meeting, held on Sunday, emphasized the historical and religious ties and mutual interests between the two nations. The joint statement highlighted the agreement to establish necessary mechanisms for initiating bilateral talks on resuming diplomatic relations.

We report with just one agenda: the truth.
The Bahraini minister was in Tehran at the invitation of the Iranian foreign minister to attend the 19th Meeting of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue Ministerial Meeting on Monday.
Diplomatic ties between Iran and Bahrain were severed in 2016, following Saudi Arabia’s decision to cut relations with Tehran. This move was in response to attacks on Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran after Saudi Arabia executed a Shiite cleric.
In March 2023, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached a significant agreement to restore their diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies. By April, they officially announced the resumption of diplomatic ties.
This renewed dialogue between Iran and Bahrain marks another step towards regional reconciliation and cooperation, following the broader trend set by the Saudi-Iran agreement.
