The leaders discussed expanding bilateral and regional ties, focusing on electricity, natural gas, and trade, according to a statement from the Iranian president’s office.
Pezeshkian emphasized the strategic partnership between the neighboring countries, stating that Iran and Turkmenistan “as two neighboring states with brotherly ties” could collaborate on gas swaps, transportation, and electricity exchanges. The Iranian president reaffirmed his country’s commitment to peace and regional stability, expressing Iran’s readiness to work with Turkmenistan and other nations to foster diplomatic and economic ties. He also stressed the significance of cooperation among Caspian Sea littoral states, saying such efforts would protect mutual interests and safeguard the region’s environment.
Berdimuhamedov welcomed Pezeshkian’s proposals and congratulated him on the 46th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. He echoed Pezeshkian’s views on strengthening bilateral relations and fostering peace in the region.
Iran and Turkmenistan, both rich in natural gas reserves, have maintained economic ties for decades. Iran has been a key player in facilitating gas swaps with Turkmenistan, ensuring the transportation of energy to third countries. The latest discussion signals a continued commitment to deepening trade and political ties.
