Iran Seeks Regional Dialogue in Oman Following Damascus Airstrike

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian embarked on a regional tour Sunday, starting with Oman, amid heightened tensions following a suspected Israeli airstrike on the Iranian Embassy compound in Damascus. The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that the visit, headed by Amirabdollahian and including a political and parliamentary delegation, aims to discuss bilateral and regional matters, including the situation in Gaza.

This tour comes in the wake of an attack last Monday, allegedly carried out by Israeli warplanes, targeting Iran’s embassy compound in Syria. Iran reported that the incident resulted in the deaths of seven commanders from the Revolutionary Guard Corps, among them three high-ranking officials.

In response to the growing hostilities, the United States has heightened its security alertness, anticipating possible Iranian retaliations against Israeli or American interests in the region. A US official confirmed on Friday that preparations are underway to counter any potential threats.

Meanwhile, Israel has intensified its military operations in Syria, focusing on positions held by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hizbullah, the Iran-supported Lebanese militia. Both groups are allies of Syrian President Bashar Assad in the Syrian conflict. Israel maintains a policy of silence regarding its actions in Syria, with a military spokesperson stating, “We do not comment on reports in the foreign media,” when questioned about the recent airstrikes.
