Iran’s Non-Oil Exports Rise 18% in Value Over 9 Months

Iran’s non-oil exports increased by 18% in value during the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year, which runs from March 20 to December 20, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency. The growth reflects a year-on-year rise in both value and volume, as reported on Saturday by Foroud Asgari, head of Iran’s customs administration.

The country exported 116.3 million tons of non-oil goods worth $43.14 billion during this period, a 13.8% increase in weight compared to the same timeframe last year. Petrochemical products dominated the exports, with 50.7 million tons valued at $19.7 billion, marking a year-on-year rise of over 30% in both categories, Asgari stated.

On the import side, Iran received 27.9 million tons of goods valued at $50.9 billion, representing a 3.2% decline in weight from the previous year. The report identified China, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Afghanistan as Iran’s primary export destinations. Meanwhile, the UAE, China, Turkey, Germany, and India were the top exporters to Iran.

The growth in non-oil exports reflects Iran’s ongoing efforts to diversify its economy away from reliance on oil revenue, a strategy increasingly important under international sanctions targeting its energy sector. Petrochemicals have emerged as a crucial component of the country’s export profile, helping maintain trade relationships with neighboring and regional partners.
