The Iraqi government on Tuesday unveiled a new initiative aimed at facilitating the return of displaced individuals to their original homes from camps in the Kurdistan region. According to the official Iraqi News Agency, Deputy Minister Karim al-Nouri of the Ministry of Migration and Displaced announced the plan, which involves collaboration with the ministries of transport and education to offer job opportunities and financial incentives to returning families.

We report with just one agenda: the truth.
Under this program, the Ministry of Transport will provide taxi job opportunities for those who can drive, and the Ministry of Education will reserve a certain percentage of jobs for displaced individuals. The Iraqi Council of Ministers has approved an increase in the financial aid provided to each returning family from 1.5 million Iraqi dinars (approximately $1,100) to 4 million dinars (around $3,100).
This initiative comes as the government sets a deadline of June 30 for the permanent closure of displacement camps within the Kurdistan region. With over 1 million internally displaced people in Iraq, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, challenges such as insecurity, lack of employment, and damaged homes have previously prevented many from returning. The government’s plan seeks to address these obstacles and support displaced families in rebuilding their lives.
