The meeting, which included Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, emphasized the importance of deepening ties across various sectors.
Prime Minister al-Sudani highlighted Iraq’s commitment to continue its collaboration with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), especially as the Netherlands prepares to assume the presidency of NATO in mid-May. Al-Sudani also pointed out the significant advancements in the capabilities of the Iraqi armed forces, asserting that the IS no longer represents a threat to the country. This development paves the way for further discussions and coordination with NATO regarding the training and advising of Iraqi security forces.
Dutch Foreign Minister Slot expressed support for the ongoing dialogue between Iraq and the international coalition, aiming to transition to comprehensive bilateral relations. Additionally, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, in a joint press conference with Slot, addressed the regional and international concerns of violence, including recent US airstrikes on Iraqi paramilitary forces and an Iranian missile attack on Erbil.
