Israel Allows Qatari Fuel into Gaza after 12-Day Halt
After halting shipments of fuel into the Gaza Strip in response to the continued violence along the Israel-Gaza border, Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has accepted the recommendation of his military chiefs and allowed fuel supplied by Qatar to be delivered in order to allow the only power plant in Gaza to resume operation. Fuel deliveries were halted on October 13. Stressing his oft-stated carrot-and-stick policy, Liberman noted that because the level of violence has decreased, he is also re-opening the Kerem Shalom and Erez crossing points, the sole locations through which goods and residents, respectively, are able to pass into and out of the Gaza Strip. The decrease in violence implies fewer kites and balloons armed with incendiary devices.
