This development follows a high-level meeting in Poland, where David Barnea, chief of Israel’s Mossad, met with William Burns, director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, and Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The meeting focused on a new potential hostage exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.
The recent cease-fire, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the US from November 24 to 30, saw Israel and Hamas temporarily halt hostilities. The truce facilitated the exchange of several Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners and allowed humanitarian aid into Gaza. However, military actions resumed on December 1 after the cease-fire’s breakdown.
