Israeli Forces Arrest 5 Suspects in ISIS Car Bomb Plot Targeting Tel Aviv Landmark
Israeli security forces arrested five Arab Israeli citizens suspected of plotting a car bombing at Tel Aviv’s Azrieli Mall under ISIS’s banner, The Media Line’s Simcha Pasko writes. Authorities revealed that the suspects, all from Taybeh, allegedly formed an ISIS-affiliated terror cell. The arrests followed a monthlong covert investigation by the Lahav 433 crime unit. According to officials, the suspects analyzed footage of previous attacks in Syria and discussed the amount of explosives needed to target the Azrieli Towers. Mahmoud Azam and Ibrahim Sheik Yousef were identified as the ringleaders, with three others recruited to assist. Authorities said Azam and Yousef had been in contact with foreign ISIS operatives and planned to meet them abroad. Officials credited “precise and effective intelligence operations” for uncovering the plot in its early stages, preventing what they called “a major disaster.” Pasko reports that this development comes amid a recent surge in terror incidents across Israel, including fatal attacks in Beersheba and Hadera.
