Israeli Military To Conduct Thorough Probe Into Gaza Aid Queue Deaths
The Israeli military announced on Saturday a commitment to a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the tragic deaths of Palestinians in Gaza who were queuing for aid on Thursday. The incident, which resulted in the deaths of 118 people according to the Health Ministry of Gaza’s Hamas-run government, has sparked global outrage and demands for an international investigation. Israel, however, contests these figures, attributing the majority of deaths to the chaos and panic that led to individuals being trampled or run over by aid trucks.

Military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari assured reporters in Tel Aviv of the Israel Defense Forces’ intention to conduct a thorough and honest inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Hagari emphasized the humanitarian nature of the operation and refuted claims of deliberate harm to civilians. The orderly delivery of aid in the conflict-stricken regions of Gaza faces severe challenges, exacerbated by the absence of effective administration and limitations faced by the UN’s agency for assisting Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, due to an investigation into its alleged connections with Hamas.
The aid delivery debacle has intensified calls for a cease-fire in Gaza, a situation further complicated by the recent incident, according to US President Joe Biden, as international efforts continue to seek a resolution involving a truce and the release of hostages.
