Israeli Renewable Energy Power Facilities Increase by Almost 50% in 2021

The number of renewable energy facilities for generating electricity in Israel rose by 48.1% in 2021, according to a report published by Israel’s Electricity Authority and Energy Ministry on Tuesday. The Jewish state had 4,929 renewable energy facilities for power generation at the end of 2020 and 7,298 at the end of 2021, according to the report. The power installed capacity reached 3,656 megawatts at the end of 2021, an increase of 33.8% over the 2,732-megawatt installed capacity at the end of 2020. In 2021, 8.1% of Israel’s electricity consumption came from renewable energy. This represents a sharp increase. As recently as 2016, only 2.5% of Israel’s electricity came from renewable energy. Israel has set a goal of reaching 20% of power consumption from renewable energy by the end of 2025, according to the report. Israel’s Energy Minister Karine Elharrar told The Media Line’s Felice Friedson in an exclusive interview for International Women’s Day that the country had set a target of generating 30% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2030.
