Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, “We are in constant consultations with our Iranian partners, including on the topic of the nuclear deal. This process will continue, including in the near future. And, of course, Russia is ready to make every effort, to do everything possible to contribute to this problem’s resolution by political and diplomatic means.” Moscow has repeatedly offered to mediate between the two sides following Trump’s provocative threats, which have rattled regional security.
During his first term, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal, reinstating strict sanctions that Iran now contends have forced it to expand its nuclear program for peaceful purposes. While Tehran has rejected direct talks, warning that host nations of US bases might become targets, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned that Trump’s bombing rhetoric only complicates the situation, potentially triggering catastrophic consequences for the region.
