Kuwait Busts Drug Trafficking Network, Seizes 60 KG of Narcotics
Kuwait’s Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that it had dismantled an international drug trafficking network, seizing 60 kilograms of marijuana and hashish with an estimated market value of 750,000 Kuwaiti dinars ($2.45 million). The operation was led by the General Directorate for Drug Control’s International Control Division and involved the smuggling of drugs from a European country into Kuwait through Kuwait International Airport.
According to the ministry’s statement, the network consisted of five individuals, including two employees of Kuwait’s General Administration of Customs. These customs officers allegedly abused their positions to assist in the drug smuggling process. All five suspects have been handed over to the Drug Prosecution Office, where they will face further legal proceedings.
This operation is part of the Criminal Security Sector’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and prevent narcotics from entering Kuwait. The General Department for Combating Narcotics, particularly its International Anti-Narcotics Department, played a critical role in this successful bust. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to holding anyone accountable who threatens Kuwait’s security and stability, emphasizing that no one is above the law.
The ministry has also warned that future smuggling attempts will be met with the same level of vigilance and determination to protect the country and its citizens from the dangers of drugs.
