Landmark Economic, Trade Agreements Unveiled Between Iran and Tajikistan

Iran and Tajikistan have significantly deepened their strategic relations with the signing of a joint statement and a suite of 18 cooperation documents and memorandums of understanding. Iranian and Tajik ministers inked the documents in the presence of President Ebrahim Raisi and his Tajik counterpart, President Emomali Rahmon, in Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, setting a roadmap for bilateral trade and economic cooperation through 2030.

The agreements cover various sectors, including mutual visa-free access, anti-drug trafficking collaboration, transportation, crisis management, and the establishment of joint free economic zones. Moreover, they extend to inter-city cooperation across multiple fields.

During his visit, President Raisi emphasized that the shared historical, religious, and cultural ties between Iran and Tajikistan lay a robust foundation for boosting bilateral relations on all fronts. He projected that trade transactions could reach $500 million as an initial target. President Rahmon echoed the sentiment, underscoring the need to enhance ties, particularly in mining, health, science and technology, and agriculture.

President Raisi, leading a high-ranking delegation, also engaged with local traders and businessmen, signaling a strong push for increased economic engagement. This visit marks a significant step forward in the two countries’ relations, reflecting a mutual desire for economic integration and cooperation.
