Liberia-Flagged Tanker Struck by Projectile in Red Sea as Tensions Escalate Near Yemen
British security firm Ambrey reported on Thursday that a Liberia-flagged tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile in the Red Sea, about 73 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port of Hodeidah. The vessel, en route from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to Muscat, Oman, sustained minor damage to its bridge.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Agency (UKMTO) confirmed receiving reports of the incident and said authorities are investigating. Hours after the initial strike, two more projectiles detonated near the ship, but no further damage or casualties were reported.

Ambrey linked the incident to Houthi targeting patterns, with the Yemeni group responsible for nearly 100 attacks on ships in the Red Sea since November, citing their actions as support for Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict with Israel.
Despite the damage, the tanker’s crew remained safe, and the vessel is continuing its journey.
