President Trump Warns Iran: Attack US and You Will Cease to Exist

“If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!” President Donald Trump posted this tweet hours after a Katyusha rocket struck Baghdad’s Green Zone. One of the most secure areas in the world, the Green Zone houses the US Embassy and other missions along with Iraqi government offices. The attack – which caused no casualties – followed intelligence reports warning of a potential Iranian “threat.” This prompted the State Department last week to evacuate all non-essential diplomatic personnel from Iraq. Trump’s comments came as Fox News aired an interview on Sunday night in which the president, filmed days earlier, stressed: “I’m not somebody that wants to go into war because war hurts economies, war kills people most importantly…. But you do have situations like Iran [and] you can’t let them have nuclear weapons. You just can’t let that happen.” Tensions have been rising in the Middle East over the past month amid a US military build-up and two separate attacks allegedly perpetrated by Iranian proxies on Saudi oil and shipping assets. Nevertheless, Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, contend that the Islamic Republic is not interested in a conflict with Washington.
