Saudi Arabia To Plant 50 Million Trees in Red Sea Initiative

In an ambitious bid to combat climate change and enhance biodiversity, Saudi Arabia has initiated a project to plant 50 million mangrove trees along its Red Sea coastline by 2030. The project, managed by the Red Sea Global (RSG), an entity fully owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, aligns with the national Saudi Green Initiative.

The young mangroves will spend approximately eight months in nurseries before being relocated to designated mangrove parks once they reach 80 cm in height. This project reflects RSG’s commitment to preserving and rejuvenating the kingdom’s Red Sea coastline.

RSG is also behind two of Saudi Arabia’s major regenerative tourism projects: the Red Sea and Amaala. The Red Sea project is set to open its doors to guests later this year, while Amaala is anticipated to welcome visitors by 2024.
