Some 9,000 Afghan Refugees Return Home From Pakistan, Iran

More than 5,600 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan on Monday, the country’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation Affairs announced. The returnees, numbering 5,640, came back through Torkham and Spin Boldak crossing points from Pakistan, receiving necessary assistance upon their arrival. Additionally, more than 3,000 Afghan refugees made their way back from Iran on the same day.

With around 2.5 million Afghan refugees previously residing in both Pakistan and Iran, the recent influx marks a notable shift. Over the past two months, local media reports suggest that more than 400,000 Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland. In response, the Afghan caretaker administration has committed to providing essential facilities, including temporary shelters, especially during the winter months, to accommodate the returnees.
