Tunisian Authorities Crack Down on Drug Trade

Tunisian authorities recently broke up a drug trafficking operation in the northern suburbs of Tunis, the capital. Acting on intelligence about narcotics hidden in a warehouse in the western Kram area, security forces raided the location and discovered 17 slabs of cannabis along with cash. The operation, which took place on Wednesday, resulted in the arrest of several individuals connected to the distribution network, including two women, according to a statement released by the General Directorate of National Security on its Facebook page.

The National Guard is conducting further investigations into the matter, although specifics have not been disclosed. The public prosecution has ordered the detention of the suspects while the investigation proceeds. The National Guard has also appealed to the public for cooperation, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity.

This bust reflects Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking. The country has been actively pursuing individuals involved in this illegal trade, with numerous arrests made across the nation in recent operations. Drug trafficking is a significant problem in North Africa, with the region serving as a transit point for drugs moving from production centers in Africa and South America toward Europe and the Middle East.
