Turkish President Erdogan Initiates Major Cabinet Reshuffle
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Saturday announced sweeping changes to his cabinet, introducing new figures into pivotal roles, including foreign affairs, treasury and finance, defense, and vice presidency.
Hakan Fidan, formerly at the forefront of the National Intelligence Organization since 2010, is the newly appointed foreign minister. Fidan, a close confidant of Erdoğan, is expected to lend his extensive experience to international affairs. Mehmet Şimşek, lauded for his economic expertise, takes the reigns as the treasury and finance minister. Şimşek previously held the positions of finance minister and deputy prime minister from 2009 to 2018.

Yaşar Güler, a strong proponent of national security, is now defense minister, and Cevdet Yılmaz, former deputy prime minister and development minister, is the new vice president.
This announcement coincided with Erdoğan’s third presidential term inauguration, during which he vowed to introduce a more liberal constitution and bring unity among the Turkish populace. Foreign dignitaries, including NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, attended the ceremony.
Erdogan, who has led Turkey since 2003, won 52.18% of votes in the May 28 presidential runoff against rival Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.
