U.S. Goes On Offensive On Behalf Of Israel At ‘Biased’ United Nations
The United States has adopted a new strategy in support of its ally Jerusalem at the United Nations, many of whose member states have long been accused by Washington of harboring an anti-Israel bias. According to Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon, under the new plan the Jewish state will no longer face hostile votes in the Security Council without the U.S. submitting an accompanying resolution denouncing the “hypocrisy” of the UN body. The revelation comes after the U.S. on Friday vetoed a Kuwaiti-drafted text calling for “international protection” for Palestinians in Gaza; this, while failing to mention Hamas’ role in fomenting violence and fostering the dire humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian enclave. American Ambassador Nikki Haley, in turn, presented a separate measure explicitly referring to Hamas as a terrorist organization and condemning Gaza’s rulers for last week’s firing of more than 100 rockets towards Israeli civilian centers. However, Washington’s resolution also failed to be adopted, receiving only one vote in favor—from the U.S. itself.
