United Nations Agency Discovers Hamas Terror Tunnel beneath UNRWA School in the Gaza Strip
The United Nations agency responsible for Palestinian refugees revealed on Sunday it had notified Israel that it had discovered a Hamas terror tunnel under a school in the Gaza Strip operated by UNRWA – the United Nations Relief Works Agency – two weeks ago. The school was closed for ten days. The tunnel is one of many constructed beneath the Gaza Strip, some of which extend under the border and into Israeli territory. During the last Gaza war, the tunnels played a key role facilitating some of the most successful Hamas operations against Israeli troops. UN facilities were often used as platforms to launch rockets into Israel in order to discourage its army from firing at a school. The latest revelation is the second in four months. A tunnel was found beneath a different school in June.
