US Sanctions Chinese, Hong Kong Firms in Iranian Drone Network Crackdown

The US Treasury Department announced new sanctions on Wednesday targeting six entities based in Hong Kong and China that are alleged to be part of an Iranian drone procurement network. According to Treasury officials, these companies—operating on behalf of Pishtazan Kavosh Gostar Boshra and its subsidiary Narin Sepehr Mobin Isatis—are key suppliers of components for Iran’s unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and ballistic missile programs.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated, “Iran continues to try to find new ways to procure the key components it needs to bolster its UAV weapons program through new front companies and third-country suppliers.” The sanctions freeze any US assets held by the targeted entities and prohibit American individuals and companies from engaging in any transactions with them. This move is part of President Donald Trump’s revived “maximum pressure” campaign aimed at reducing Iran’s oil exports to zero, a policy designed to cut off funds that support Iran’s nuclear and missile ambitions.

The action comes on the heels of fresh US sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry, which is the country’s main revenue source. In response, Iran’s top diplomat reiterated on Tuesday that Iran will not yield to US pressure and sanctions. Meanwhile, Liu Pengyu, spokesperson for China’s embassy in Washington, defended the cooperation between China and Iran, stating that it is “reasonable and legal” and emphasizing that China opposes the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States.
